hello there.

I'm Michael, a UX Designer based in Bern, Switzerland.
I'm currently working at DV Bern AG, where i create user-centered prototypes for complex business applications, show my fellow designers the way into UX and try to implement the concept of design thinking in the company's philosophy.

my story.

Growing up in the beautiful town of Interlaken, i always dreamed about becoming a car designer and loved drawing those. As we got our first computer, i fell in love with gaming and the web.

While growing out of my love for cars (i'm more of a motorcyclist now), my fascination for computers stayed, so i started my apprenticeship as a sofware developer at 15 years old. In those 4 years, I learned a lot about what i like to do professionally. Working as a back-end java developer, i missed the visual side of things. I started to learn front-end development by myself, and started to gain interest in the UX topic, thanks to the wonderful community of ux.stackexchange.com. I started to take on questions there and trying to find out the perfect solutions. It thought me the principle of user-centered thinking opposed to the technology-driven approach.

In the last year of my apprenticeship, i realized that still liking coding, i want to work more in a visual thinking environment. I had the chance to switch in the company itself to the intern UX team, where i worked for two years, learning all about UX. In this time, i also started my Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Interaction Design (yup, that's actually what it's called...).

Working with experienced visual designers, interaction designers and ux researcher really helped me to find my place in the ux world. But i was way more disconnected from the developer and coding than i expected, and i really started to miss coding. After 5 years in a huge company (Swiss Federal Railways), i had the chance to work in a small agency founded by friends called novu, where i worked as a Front-End Developer and UI/UX Designer.

After a wild year at novu, i was looking for a more organized company where i was able to fully work as a UX designer but in close collaboration with the developers. That's when I ended up at DV Bern AG, where i'm working now.

Responsible for the visual concepts of most of the products at the company, i'm able to support the front-end dev's, shape the way we develop new products and impact the company-wide philosophy about design thinking.
